Rockets Achieve Best Academic Year in School History

TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo student-athletes earned a record grade point average of 3.472 in the 2023 spring semester, Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair announced today.

Coming off a previous record GPA of 3.401 in the 2022 fall semester, Rocket student-athletes have now achieved the best academic year in school history.

Toledo student-athletes have set a new GPA record in each of the past six semesters, and have earned a semester GPA of 3.3 or higher in nine consecutive semesters.

Women's Swimming & Diving (3.754) had the highest team GPA this spring, followed closely by Softball (3.749), Women's Golf (3.748) and Men's Golf (3.734).

Football (3.202) and Men's Tennis (3.679) both set records for the highest GPAs in their program's history.

Other highlights from this past semester include:

A record 77 student-athletes (21.0%) earned President's List honors with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
A record 212 student-athletes (58.0%) earned a spot on the Dean's List by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA.
295 out of 365 (80.8%) total student-athletes made the Honor Roll by securing a 3.00 GPA or higher, which is the highest percentage in school history to crack the 3.0 mark.

"Our student-athletes make it clear that you don't have to choose between your academic pursuits and your athletic dreams at the University of Toledo. As Rockets, you can be champions on the field and in the classroom! To set the record with a 3.472 department grade point average in the same year in which we won six Mid-American Conference championships is nothing short of amazing. I would also like to applaud the outstanding support provided by our Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) staff, our University faculty, staff, coaches and parents who support the achievements of our student-athletes in the classroom. It is truly a team effort."
