ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Toledo baseball team hit its way to a 10-7 win at Michigan on Wednesday evening to capture its biggest win of the season to date.

The Rockets' win is their first over the Wolverines (19-17) since April 11, 2012 and marks the second straight year they have beaten a Big Ten team after winning at Ohio State last year.

A pair of home runs for the Wolverines gave them a 6-1 lead through the first three innings, but once the Rockets got settled at the plate they feasted on UM pitching.

Toledo (16-20) scored two runs in the top of the fifth, four in the top of the sixth, and three in the top of the seventh to muscle its way to the win. UT also had terrific outings out of the bullpen to keep the Michigan bats at bay for the rest of the game and hold on for the win.

"What a great team win today," head coach Rob Reinstetle said. "We had a little bit of everything mixed in. Some strong pitching by a handful of guys and great defense. The bats came alive and we had so many guys come through with big at-bats. The dugout energy was great and now we need to use this as momentum going into the weekend."

Five Rockets turned in multi-hit efforts on Wednesday. Junior Jeron Williams went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base. The nation's leader in stolen bases, Williams now has 34 this season and is two away from tying the school record for most in a season (Tyler Grogg, 36 SB in 2013).

Matching Williams' hit total was sophomore Brayden White, who also went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Freshman Wesley Parker drove in a season-best three runs and collected two hits as well. Sophomore Caden Konczak reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, and junior Trey Wright went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

On the mound, six different pitchers saw time in Wednesday's game. Junior Kyle Music turned in a scoreless frame to earn the win, and sophomore Brennan McCune earned his second save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. Junior Kyle Pijaszek came through with two huge innings out of the pen, striking out four and stranding four UM baserunners in the seventh and eighth.

Toledo resumes MAC play this weekend at Eastern Michigan. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 6:00 p.m.

How it Happened
  • The Rockets grabbed the lead in the top of the second on a sac fly from Trey Wright.
  • Michigan's Mitch Voit's two-run homer to right field made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the second.
  • The Wolverines took a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the third on Joey Velazquez's grand slam.
  • Toledo made it 6-3 in the top of the fifth. Troy Sudbrook scored on a fielder's choice, and Caden Konczak followed that with an RBI double.
  • The Rockets batted around and scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Brayden White's two-run single down the line in left field brought in the first two runs of the inning, and he later scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game. Jeron Williams ripped a base hit into center field to score Wright and give UT the lead.
  • Toledo put up another crooked number in the top of the seventh. Kade Wroot drew a pinch-hit, two-out walk to keep the inning alive and Parker, Konczak, and Williams tallied three straight RBI singles to put the score at 10-7.
  • Kyle Pijaszek shut down two late Michigan rallies to help seal the win. With runners on first and second and one out in the seventh, he struck out the final two hitters of the inning to keep the score at 10-7. In the bottom of the eighth, Pijaszek again stranded a pair of Wolverine runners to keep the Rockets' lead at three.
  • Brennan McCune tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save and cap Toledo's big non-conference win.
