BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Toledo women's tennis team kept its winning streak alive at five matches on Friday afternoon after defeating Buffalo 6-1 at the Miller Tennis Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The win improved the Rockets to 13-3 overall and remain the only undefeated team in Mid-American Conference play with a 4-0 league record.
"I could not be prouder of this squad and the composure with which they competed with," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "Buffalo is an incredibly difficult place to play, but my players showed how much maturity they have. This team is on a mission."
After winning the doubles team point thanks to 6-1 decisions from the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, Toledo did not step off the gas in singles play against a highly competitive Buffalo team.
Cassie Alcala won the No. 1 court after losing the first set and winning the second and third sets to secure her fifth-straight win and 10
th-straight MAC singles win dating back to last April.
Sanjana Tallamraju (No.4) and
Shalini Tallamraju (No.3) also extended their individual winning streaks to five matches from their respective courts.
Sloane Teske picked up her fourth-straight win from the No. 2 court and
Julia Kuszynski got back in the win column form the No. 5 court.
Buffalo's only win of the afternoon came from the No. 6 court.
Toledo and Bowling Green will go head-to-head in the annual Battle of I-75 presented by Cooper Tires this Sunday, with first serve scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The match will either be played at the UT Varsity Tennis Court or at Twos Athletic Club, depending on the weather.
