12/26/2023 10:37:00 AM

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Toledo football team arrived in Tucson late Tuesday night in preparation for its appearance in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. The Rockets have a full slate of activities leading up to the game vs. Wyoming on Saturday, Dec. 30 (2:30 p.m. MT/ 4:30 p.m. ET). The game will be televised on the CW and can also be seen on the Barstool Sports app.

In addition to practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the Rockets will enjoy team activities during the week, including a trip to the Main Event, a bowling and laser tag arcade; a visit to Old Tucson, an old west theme park; and a community service event.

"We're super excited to be here at the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl and a chance to represent the University of Toledo," said Head Coach Jason Candle upon arrival at the team hotel. "From everything I've been told from other coaches and teams that have been here is that they put on a first-class bowl here. We're excited for the week and we look forward to our young men having a great week."

Toledo (11-2, 8-0 MAC) won 11 consecutive games this season and was the West Division champion of the Mid-American Conference. Wyoming (8-4, 5-3 MWC) finished in a tie for fourth place in the Mountain West Conference, a game behind three teams that tied for first place.

After a heart-breaking 30-28 loss at Illinois to open the season, Toledo reeled off 11 consecutive wins before falling to Miami in the MAC Championship Game, 23-14. Toledo went a perfect 8-0 in conference play for the first time in its history, including a 21-17 win at Miami on Oct. 21.

"This is a chance for us to celebrate a great season," said Candle. "We had a little bit of a break for our players to take a little time off and see Santa Claus and spend time with their families, and now we're back to play one more round. This is the last go-round for our seniors so we will try to do a great job and send them off with a win."

Toledo is 12-8 all-time in bowl games, including last year's 21-19 victory over Liberty at the Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl. Toledo is 4-1 in bowl games vs. current Mountain West Conference teams, with wins over San Jose State, Nevada, UNLV and Air Force, and a loss to Utah State.
