Award recognizes the top assistant football coach in Division I-FBS
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo's Co-Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Mike Hallett has been named a Broyles Award nominee, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Tuesday.
The Broyles Award is handed out annually to the top FBS assistant coach in the country.
Hallett is in his eighth season with the Rockets and this year has helped mentor one of the top offenses in the country. A major key to Toledo's success this season has been Hallett's offensive line, which ranks second in the nation in fewest sacks allowed (five) and has paved the way for the seventh-ranked rushing attack in the country (214.0 YPG). The Rockets lead the MAC in rushing, scoring offense (35.9), passing offense (225.6), and total offense (439.6).
The 63 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 133 FBS programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), broadcasters, a college football hall-of-fame selection committee, and current college head coaches.
A selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters, and a committee representing the FWAA will select 15 semi-finalists, five finalists from the list of nominees, and an overall winner.
