Toledo Heading to Florida This Weekend for Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational

Tourney to begin with 36 holes on Sunday and 18 more on Monday
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's golf team heads to the Sunshine State this weekend to compete in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla. The Rockets will be competing in the event hosted by Michigan State on Sunday-Monday, Oct. 15-16.

The tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,350-yard Quail Valley Golf Club. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start will be utilized on Sunday with 8:30 a.m. tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes set for Monday.
The Field
The Rockets will be competing against a 16-team field that includes 11 schools that were ranked in the Top 100 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin computer rankings. Joining Toledo in the field are Cincinnati, FAU, Indiana, Kent State, Liberty, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Florida, Northern Illinois, Penn State, Rutgers, South Florida, and UNC-Greensboro.
This Week's Lineup
The Rockets' lineup will include senior Barend Botha at No. 1, senior Jamie Tofte Nielsen at No. 2, senior NJ Botha at No. 3, senior Palmer Yenrick at No. 4, and sophomore Mads Jensen at No. 5.
Barend Botha tops the Rockets with a 70.3 stroke average and is followed by NJ Botha (71.0), Nielsen (71.3), and Yenrick (73.3).
Last Time Out
Nielsen registered a Top 10 finish to spur Toledo to a third-place tie on Tuesday at East Tennessee State's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Rockets, who sat in 14th place following the first 18 holes, surged up the leaderboard six spots in the final round by carding a seven-under 281.

Nielsen registered a team-high 12 birdies in the tourney and tied for seventh place at three-under par 213 for the fourth Top 10 finish of his collegiate career.
Fun in Florida
The Rockets have set a school record in each of the last two years at the Quail Valley event. In 2021, Toledo posted a team score of 22-under par to finish in fourth place against a field that included six teams ranked among the Top 35. Â Last year, UT shot a 29-under par 835 and finished just 10 strokes behind champion North Florida.

Barend Botha led the Rockets last year at 11-under par, while NJ Botha and Jamie Tofte Nielsen finished at seven- and five-under par, respectively. Nielsen led the way for Toledo in 2021 at eight-under par with Barend Botha shooting seven-under par.
