TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Wellness Brian Jones announced that Emily Loew and Mackenzie Haines have been promoted to the position of associate athletic trainer, as well as the hiring of Kiana Young as assistant athletic trainer.

"I'm extremely excited to announce the promotion of Emily and Mackenzie to associate athletic trainers," Jones said. "These two ladies have shown an unwavering commitment to our program and our student-athletes. I look forward to working with them to expand our services and better improve the quality of healthcare for our entire program"

Loew, now in her fourth year as a member of the sports medicine staff, will work directly with the women's soccer team. She served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Rockets' softball team while completing her master's degree in 2019 and was hired as a full-time assistant in the sports medicine staff later that same year. Loew received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Purdue University in 2017.

Haines, now in her fifth year at Toledo, will continue to work directly with the women's volleyball team and oversee the graduate assistant athletic trainers covering the women's track & field, men's cross country and women's cross country programs. Haines is a 2016 Ohio University graduate where she earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training before coming to Toledo. She served as the graduate assistant athletic trainer for the women's volleyball team while completing her master's degree in 2018, and was hired full-time that summer.

Young joined the sports medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer after serving as a graduate assistant to the University of Toledo recreational sports, marching band, dance team, and ROTC programs for the 2021-22 academic year. She will work primarily with the softball team. A native of Santa Cruize, Trinidad and Tobago, Young received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Georgia Southern University in 2022 and earned her master's degree in science and science from Toledo in 2022.

"Kiana Young is a very strong young clinician and a fantastic addition to our program," Jones added. "She stepped up during her time as a graduate assistant and assisted our program in many ways.  When we had an opportunity to keep her as a member of our staff, it was an easy decision."
