TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team had its 12-match home winning streak snapped Thursday afternoon in a 4-3 setback to Miami at Twos Athletic Club.
Miami jumped ahead 1-0 in the match after pulling the doubles team point from wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
Junior
Sloane Teske defeated MAC Player of the Year Laura Rico (6-3, 6-3) on the No. 2 court to tie the match 1-1. The next win came from sophomore
Shalini Tallamraju on the No. 4 court in two sets to put Toledo ahead in the match. Cincinnati won the No. 3, No. 1 and No. 5 courts, respectively, to secure the match. Senior
Eileen Carney fell behind early on the No. 6 court but came back in the second and third set to win the match.
The individual wins by Teske, Tallamraju and Carney marked their third-straight singles wins, all in conference play.
"We started so flat in doubles today," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said, "That's the only thing I was unhappy with. We battled like crazy in singles but came up just a little short. We look forward to playing Miami again next week.
Toledo (14-5, 4-2 MAC) will next host Bowling Green on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the match will be held on campus at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts and streamed live via ESPN3. In case of inclement weather, the match will be moved to Twos Athletic Club.
