Rockets Remain Perfect at Home with 6-1 Triumph Over Western Michigan

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team defended its home court for the seventh time this season, with a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan on Sunday. The Rockets' win improves their record to 14-4 overall, 4-1 in Mid-American Conference play, and is their 12-straight win at home since April 2, 2021.

Toledo won the doubles point thanks to a 6-3 win from Sloane Teske and Christina Fuller on the No. 3 court, and a 7-5 decision clinch by Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski on the No. 1 court.

Despite the final score, the match was a close battle with all five of Toledo's singles victories going the full three sets. Junior Sloane Teske (court 2), sophomore Shallini Tallamraju (court 4), senior Patricia Panta (court 5) and senior Eileen Carney (court 6) each dropped the first set of their respective matches, but took the second and third sets for the wins. Sophomore Cassie Alcala lost the second set on a tie-breaker on the No. 1 court, but finished off her opponent 6-4 in the decisive set. Karin Hamilton won the No. 3 court to earn the only point for Western Michigan.

"I am so incredibly proud of the fight today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "To win ALL five, three-set matches is incredible. It's a testament to the fitness level as well as the amount of heart this squad has."

UT will have two home matches next week vs. Miami (April 7) and Bowling Green (April 9). Both matches are set for a 1:00 p.m. start time and will be played at UT Varsity Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
