TOLEDO, Ohio – Josh McKinney has been hired an an assistant athletic trainer for the University of Toledo sports medicine program, senior associate athletic director for health and wellness
Brian Jones announced Wednesday.
"During the interview process, Josh was quickly identified as a strong clinician with exceptional interpersonal skills and a vast knowledge of athletic training," Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
Brad Pierson said. "We are excited to have him and we know he will be a great addition to our sports medicine team."
McKinney became a member of the University of Toledo Sports Medicine staff in November 2021. In his role as Assistant Athletic Trainer, McKinney works directly with the women's swimming and diving program and provides care for the cheer teams.
Prior to joining the Rockets, McKinney served as an athletic trainer at the University of Miami, working directly with the rowing, cross country, and men's tennis teams. He also assisted with the football program during summer camps.
Before his time at Miami, McKinney completed a year-long internship with the University of Louisville. While at Louisville, he provided direct coverage for the men's tennis program and assisted with men's soccer.
A Toledo native, McKinney earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training and minor in exercise science from the University of Toledo in 2015, and earned his master's degree from the University of Miami in exercise physiology with a focus in strength and conditioning and fitness entrepreneurship. He is a certified athletic trainer in the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
"I am very excited to bring Josh back to our Toledo Sports Medicine Family," Jones said. "He impacted our program as a student and look forward to the impact he will have on our program in the future."
