
Quinyon Mitchell Named Second-Team All-America by Phil Steele

Rockets place 13 on Phil Steele All-MAC squad
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo sophomore cornerback Quinyon Mitchell highlighted a list of 13 Rockets receiving postseason distinctions from Phil Steele on Thursday. Mitchell was named a second-team All-American, his fourth All-America distinction this season.
Mitchell was also named an All-American by Walter Camp, the Associated Press, and Pro Football Focus.
The Rockets placed 13 players on Phil Steele All-MAC teams, tied with Kent State for the most honorees.
First Team: Sophomore cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, sophomore offensive lineman Nick Rosi, linebacker Dyontae Johnson, junior wide receiver Adam Beale (punt returner)
Second Team: Sophomore quarterback Dequan Finn, senior defensive tackle Desjuan Johnson, junior linebacker Dallas Gant, sophomore safety Maxen Hook
Third Team: Sophomore wide receiver Jerjuan Newton, senior outside linebacker Jamal Hines, junior safety Nate Bauer
Fourth Team: Sophomore offensive lineman Vinny Sciury, junior defensive tackle Judge Culpepper
Toledo's Phil Steele All-MAC Honorees
First Team
Quinyon Mitchell (CB, Soph., Williston, Fla.): Mitchell is the nation's leader in passes defended with 25 (five interceptions, 20 pass breakups) and was named first-team All-MAC. His 20 breakups is the all-time Toledo record, breaking the mark of 16 set by current San Francisco 49er Samuel Womack last year. Mitchell was named a second-team All-American by Walter Camp and a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.
Nick Rosi (OL, Soph., Powell, Ohio): A first-team All-MAC selection this season, Rosi leads an offensive line that powers the highest scoring offense in the MAC (32.1 points per game).
Dyontae Johnson (LB, Sr., Detroit, Mich.): Johnson is second on the team with 103 tackles and has 8.0 tackles for loss. He was the team leader in tackles three times this season and was named Defensive Player of the Game at the MAC Championship Game. Johnson is a two-time All-MAC honoree, earning second team honors this season.
Adam Beale (WR, Jr., Holland, Ohio): Beale had played in all 13 games this season, returning 28 punts for an average of 8.0 yards per return, which leads the MAC and 22nd in the nation. He has nine returns of 10 yards or longer, including a long of 36 yards vs. Kent State.
Second Team
Dequan Finn (QB, Soph., Detroit, Mich.): A second-team All-MAC honoree and the Offensive Player of the Game at the MAC Championship Game, Finn is tied for second in the MAC in passing touchdowns (22) and third in total offense (248.6). He has completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 2,127 yards and 22 TDs on the season despite missing two games due to injury. He is also second on Rockets in rushing with 608 yards and has a team-best eight TDs. His 608 rushing yards a the most ever in a season by a Toledo quarterback.
Desjuan Johnson (DT, Sr., Detroit, Mich.): Johnson is a three-time All-MAC recipient and a first-team all-conference performer this season. His 16.5 tackles for loss ranks fourth in MAC and 11th in nation. He is second on team behind Jamal Hines with 5.5 sacks. Johnson ranks fourth in Toledo history in career TFL (47.0).
Dallas Gant (LB, Jr., Toledo, Ohio): Gant leads the Rockets and ranks fourth in MAC with 113 tackles. A first-team All-MAC honoree, he has been the team leader in tackles five times this season, with a high of 15 vs. Northern Illinois on Oct. 8.
Maxen Hook (Safety, Soph., New Palestine, Ind.): Hook is third on the team with 73 tackles and has two interceptions and four pass breakups. He was a first-team all-conference selection this season, the second All-MAC award of his career.
Third Team
Jerjuan Newton (WR, Soph., St. Petersburg, Fla.): Newton leads the Rockets with 48 receptions and is third in MAC and tied for 15th in country with nine touchdown receptions. The second-team All-MAC performer is also third in the MAC with 16.4 yards per reception.
Jamal Hines (DE, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio): Now a four-time All-MAC selection after earning second-team honors this season, Hines leads the Rockets and is tied for sixth in the MAC with 6.5 sacks. He is second on team with 9.0 tackles for loss and has 55 total tackles. Hines ranks fifth in Toledo history in career TFL (46.0), one behind teammate Desjuan Johnson.
Nate Bauer (Safety, Jr., Akron, Ohio): Bauer is fifth on team with 57 tackles, and has 3.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which came in the MAC Championship Game. He was named second-team All-MAC for the second time in his career this season.
Fourth Team
Vinny Sciury (OL, So., Massillon, Ohio): Sciury has started every game at left guard this season. He has helped anchor an offensive line that powers the highest scoring offense in the MAC (32.1 points per game).
Judge Culpepper (DT, Jr., Tampa, Fla.): Starting every game on the defensive line, Culpepper has tallied 43 tackles, 4.0 TFL, and has one sack and one forced fumble this season. In the win over Kent State, he recorded a season-high six tackles and 2.5 TFL.
