Last Time Out
Toledo played at Samford last weekend, dropping two out of three to the Bulldogs.
The Rockets' bats exploded in the 14-3 win on Saturday.
Mason Sykes had a terrific day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, the first 7-RBI performance by a Rocket since Matt Hansen in 2017.
Nicky Winterstein proved to be an effective spark at the top of the lineup, reaching base in four of his five plate appearances.
Chris Meyers collected two hits and two RBIs, and
Trace Hatfield had a pair of hits as well.
Jordan Power struck out three and allowed three runs in six innings of work.
Layne Schnitz-Paxton earned the save with three shutout innings out of the bullpen, striking out four.
Rocket Notes
- This weekend's series at Wofford will be the final tune-up for the Rockets before MAC play starts. Toledo starts conference play at Miami on March 19-21, then visits Ball State on March 26-28 before hosting Ohio on April 2-4 for its first home games of the year.
- Chris Meyers leads the MAC in both home runs (four) and RBIs (13). Mason Sykes is second in the league with 11 RBIs.
- Meyers and Sykes both have multi-home run games this year. Meyers slugged two dingers at Davidson on Feb. 28, Sykes had two homers at Samford on March 6.
- Toledo has slugged 11 home runs this season, more than any other MAC team.
- Nicky Winterstein has appeared in five games this year, starting two, and has at least one hit and one RBI in all five appearances.
