TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo Athletic Department announced on Friday the addition of Kengo Sugimoto to their athletic training staff. Sugimoto will be working primarily with the football team, as well as with the men's tennis team.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Kengo Sugimoto to our Toledo Sports Medicine Family," said Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Brian Jones. "Kengo brings a tremendous amount of experience at both the collegiate and professional levels that will no doubt benefit the health care services we provide to our student-athletes."
Sugimoto obtained his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Oregon State University in 2017, where his professional career also started. While completing his degree, he was a strength and conditioning coach intern and an athletic training student intern at Oregon State. He also served as a summer athletic training student intern with both the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 and the Seattle Seahawks in 2016.
After graduating from Oregon State, Sugimoto became an athletic training fellow at the University of Colorado before resuming his education at the University of Nebraska in May of 2018. There he earned his Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Sciences while working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Sugimoto went on to intern with the Seattle Seahawks again in the summer of 2020 before joining the Rockets' staff.
