Rockets Open 2021 Indoor Track Season at Bowling Green

TOLEDO, Ohio  - The University of Toledo women's track and field team kick off its 2021 indoor season at the BGSU Dual in Bowling Green, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 22. The field events will start at 5:00 p.m. followed by running events at 6:00 p.m.

"We are really looking forward to getting the season started and we are thrilled for our athletes, many of whom have gone nearly a full year without competition," said Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "It's also a great opportunity for some of our freshmen and others who may not always get the chance to be in the spotlight to shine in a smaller meet. We will continue to add to the lineup throughout the season as we bring all of our athletes back to campus and continue to do our part to keep them safe and healthy."

The Rockets return this year after a sixth-place finish at the 2020 MAC Indoor Championships. Graduate student Petronela Simiuc finished the 2020 indoor season with an amazing first-place finish in the mile, 800 meter and distance medley relay events. Simiuc also set a MAC record in the mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14 with a time of 4:34.59.

Fellow distance medley relay and first-team All-MACÂ teammates senior Meltem Yasar, junior Semra Karaslan and junior Rayna Horner return with Simiuc to compete for the Rockets. Toledo also returns 23 other returning athletes and welcomes 10 freshmen who are eager to start to their track and field careers.
