Toledo, Ohio – With a season-opening victory now in the books, the Toledo Rockets now face their first test on the road when they travel to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 11 (8:00 p.m./ESPN).
Toledo is coming off a dominating 38-3 victory over rival Bowling Green at the Glass Bowl on Nov. 4. Senior quarterback
Eli Peters threw for a career-high four touchdowns to lead the Midnight Blue and Gold. Toledo's defense forced three turnovers and held the Falcons to just 8-of-30 passing to help the Rockets return the Battle of I-75 trophy to Toledo.
Peters finished the night 20-of-32 for 214 yards. He threw touchdowns to four different receivers. Junior
Shakif Seymour paced the running attack with 93 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
Western Michigan is coming off a 58-13 win at Akron on Nov. 4. Sophomore quarterback Kaleb Ellerby completed 12-of-16 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The Bronco defense held the Zips to just 256 yards of total offense and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Rocket Round-Up
• Toledo leads the all-time series with Western Michigan, 44-30. The Rockets have won the last three games in the series, including a 31-24 victory in Toledo last year.
• Through one game, Toledo leads the MAC in scoring defense (3.0), total offense (524.0) and rushing offense (310.0).
• The victory over Bowling Green was Toledo's 10th in the last 11 meetings. The Rockets have owned the Battle of I-75 trophy every year but once (2019) since its inception in 2011.
• Three points was the fewest allowed by a Rocket defense against an FBS opponent since Oct. 8, 2005 when they held Eastern Michigan to three points as well. It was also the fewest allowed to the Falcons since Nov. 15, 1986 when Toledo won 22-3.
• Toledo's defense forced two fumbles and had two interceptions vs. BGSU. The Rockets' defense stifled the Falcons early, forcing three 3-and-outs, a fumble, and an interception on BGSU's first five drives of the game.
• Junior
Bryant Koback added 74 yards on the ground and caught four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. He now has 2,178 rushing yards for his career, passing Neil Trotter (1987-90, 2,168) to move into 17th on Toledo's all-time career rushing list.
• Senior cornerback
Samuel Womack broke up three passes. A year ago, Womack was second in the nation with 15 pass breakups.
