SHEPARD, Mich. – Junior Semra Karaslan started out the 2020 season with a first-place finish at the Jeff Drenth Memorial in Shepard, Mich. on Saturday. Karaslan crossed the finish line with a time of 17:25.6 leading the women's team to a first-place finish over host Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
Sophomore Emily Vining was the second Rocket to cross the line with a third-place finish, posting a time of 17:47.1. The Rocket women had four additional top 10 finishes, with junior Maya Hannagan taking fourth, recording a time of 17:59.2. Freshman Amanda Tremains placed sixth with a time of 18:06.3, and sophomore Madeline Vining was seventh with a time of 18:23.5. Senior Hannah Sponaugle rounded out the top 10 clocking in at 18:30.2.
The Rocket women finished first amongst the three teams with 21 points. Central Michigan had 44 points and Western Michigan 74.
The Rockets head to Bowling Green for the BGSU Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 7. The women's 6K race will start at 1:00pm followed by the men's 8K at 1:45pm.
