TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo senior center Bryce Harris (Akron, Ohio) was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation today. The award has recognized the best football scholar-athlete in the nation every year since 1990.
Harris graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a 3.509 grade point average in 2019. He currently holds a 3.797 GPA in the College of Graduate Studies, where he is studying school counseling.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists in November, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Mazda. Later this year, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 31st William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000 and receive his own 25-pound-bronze version of the iconic statue.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
Harris is expected to be the Rockets' starting center this season. He missed all of last season due to injury. He was a 2018 second-team All-MAC selection at center. He has appeared in 38 games as an offensive lineman at center and guard. In 2018, he was part of an offensive line that helped the Rockets lead the MAC in scoring (40.4) and rank second in total offense (443.8) and rushing (215.9).
In addition to the Campbell Trophy watch list, Harris is also a candidate for the Rimington Award (nation's top center) and the Outland Trophy (nation's top down lineman).
