Rockets Hit Road for First Time with Trip to South Carolina

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo women's golf program will hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Greenville, S.C. for Furman's Lady Paladin Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 27-29 at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course.

The Rockets' lineup this weekend will consist of senior Saranlak Tumfong at No. 1, senior Thunpijja Sukkasem at No. 2, freshman Amelia Lee at No. 3, freshman Claudia Sampson at No. 4 and senior Donchanok Toburint at No. 5. Freshman Kathryn Roth will also be competing as an individual.

Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said her young squad has worked hard to prepare for their first road trip after opening their season last week with the Glass City Invitational. The tournament will include several strong teams, including No. 1-ranked and 2019 NCAA runner-up Wake Forest.

"Practice has been quite productive in many areas over the last week, including our short game and bunker play," Coluccio said. "We have been focusing on course strategy and learning a new course. Furman's course will challenge us in different ways and finding out the best places to play from will be key. Another important factor will be playing on Bermuda grass and gaining comfort with the speed of the greens. The team is ready for another challenge and the learning opportunities available for us."

Tumfong paced the Rockets in their season-opening tournament by tying for 19th place in a field that included eight teams that advanced to post-season play last year. She carded an even-par 72 in the final round to finish with a six-over par 222 at the Inverness Club.
