Women’s Tennis Heads to West Virginia This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo women's tennis team heads to Charleston, W.Va this weekend to participate in the Thunder in the Mountains Tournament, co-hosted by West Virginia and Marshall, Sept. 20-22. This will mark the inaugural Thunder in the Mountains tourney, which will be played in a hidden dual format, with doubles in the mornings and singles to follow.
Last Time Out
The Rockets opened tournament play last weekend at the Bowling Green Invitational, where sophomore Christina Fuller went undefeated in the Freddie Falcon bracket. Fuller battled through three, three-set thrillers, defeating NIU's Fernanda Naves, along with Oakland's Aarja Chakraborty and Samantha Galloway. The Newburgh, Ind. native extended her singles winning streak at Keefe Courts to 12 matches, which spans from last season's Bowling Green Invitational.
Freshman Laura Morera also had an impressive run, going undefeated in the Frieda Falcon bracket, posting two-set victories over Bowling Green's Laura Maia Silveira, NIU's Lara Slisko and Findlay's Madison Arquette.
The dynamic duo of freshman Sloane Teske and Fuller went undefeated in doubles action in the Fight bracket, picking up wins over Oberlin's Hannah Keidan/Maja Shaw, Tiffin's Dominique Matich-Reynolds/Bowling Green's Ioanna Tsadari and Oakland's Chelsea Dzenga/Nirva Patel.
In addition, senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong and junior Patricia Panta posted a doubles victory over Oakland's Victoria Kurz/Ava Thielman in the Grit bracket and sophomore Eileen Carney/Morera took command of the Grit back draw bracket, earning three doubles victories.
