TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo divers
Joelle Gallais and
Sydney Jackson will both look to make a splash this weekend at the NCAA Zone "C" Diving Championships, hosted by Purdue University in the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Both freshman will compete in the 1-meter, while Gallais will take on the 3m and platform events as well.
"This meet is a great experience for Joelle and Sydney, especially with them only being freshmen," diving coach
Gabby Agostino said. "I expect them to focus on their individual dives and stay in their normal meet routine. They have been diving really well in practice, so I'm excited to see what they can do."
The NCAA Diving Zones are an annual primer to the NCAA Championships. Divers who finish in the Top 9 spots on 1-meter, 8 spots on 3-meter and 12 spots on platform will qualify for the NCAA Championships, March 20-23, at the University of Texas.
While the meet will not be televised, fans can follow along live on Dive Meets
here.
Both Gallais and Jackson have had impressive first-year outings thus far. Gallais earned the second-best 1m score in program history back in January against Miami (Ohio) after diving to an even 300, putting her 6.52 points behind Megan McKinley (2008). That same day, she also registered the program's third-best score in the 3m (309.90). Gallais went on to become the first UT diver to reach the 1m finals at the Mid-American Conference Championships since Brittney Teneyck took sixth in 2009, and Gallais was Toledo's diver to finish in the Top 16 since 2015.
Jackson also put up program-best marks in her first year. Also at the January meet against the RedHawks, Jackson recorded a 274.05 on the 1m springboard which ranks seventh at UT. Her 269.18 in the 3m ranks seventh as well.
