TOLEDO, Ohio – One well-placed cross at the 75 minute mark was all it took for the Rockets (6-10-0, 3-5-0 MAC) to claim their third conference victory of the season, a 1-0 triumph over Miami (3-11-1, 2-5-1 MAC) at Paul Hotmer Field on Sunday. Sophomore
Anita Mancini scored the game's only goal with 15:51 left on the clock, the third game-winner of her career and her second in the Rockets' last two games.
For nearly 74 minutes, the Rockets looked like they were in for another frustrating afternoon, dominating the RedHawks on both ends of the field only to find themselves kept off the scoreboard by other-worldly defending at the mouth of the goal. All that changed in one classic combination as sophomore
Ashton Cassel played a perfect ball across the frame to the back post where junior
Alex Troy was waiting. The ball skipped off her head and landed at the feet of Mancini, who knocked it past the goal line for what would hold up as the game-winner.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH TJ BUCHHOLZ
"We're finding ways to win. We're starting to get into stride. We're getting in sync with how we need to play as a team. These are hard games. Miami is a really strong team. They battled it out for 90 minutes and were relentless, and our defense just didn't break. I'm proud of them, all four of them in the back and Adrianna in the net, earning another shutout. It was a tough win. The MAC is a tough conference."
