9/26/2018 10:59:00 AM

Toledo, Ohio – Toledo senior wide receiver Cody Thompson (Huron, Ohio) was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation today. The award has recognized the best football scholar-athlete in the nation every year since 1990.

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 29th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Thompson was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2016, catching 64 passes for a then school-record 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season, he was averaging 126.3 yards per game and 18.7 yards per catch going into the EMU game on Oct. 7 in which he suffered a season-ending injury. He was granted an injury hardship waiver by the NCAA, giving him another chance to complete his senior season. So far through three games this season, Thompson has nine receptions for 144 yards and four touchdowns. He is on the official watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the top receiver in the country.

Thompson, who earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2016, graduated last December with a 3.7 GPA in marketing. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in recreation & leisure.

Thompson is also a candidate for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year, the Wuerffel Trophy, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, and the NCAA Senior CLASS Award.
