BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Junior Olivia Chinn, senior Stephanie Barlow and sophomore Amanda Bakley combined to sweep the top three positions at the Mel Brodt Invitational on a windy Friday afternoon in Bowling Green.
It was a two-runner race at the end as Chinn and Barlow separated themselves from the rest of the field. Chinn was able to cross the tape in 18:06.0 to edge out Barlow's time of 18:08.2.
Nearly 10 seconds later, Bakley crossed the line in third place with a mark of 18:17.0.
"The women ran very well in some tough conditions," said Toledo head coach Linh Nguyen. "Our team ran smart given the conditions and how hard we have been training at the point in the season. It's very early but I'm happy with where this group is and what they can do the rest of the year."
A Bowling Green runner and an unattached participant broke up the string of Rockets before three runners donning the Midnight Blue and Gold. Freshman Michelle Hostettler (18:25.3), sophomore Stephanie Sherman (18:44.6) and sophomore Zita Molnar (18:49.5) completed the course in succession for Toledo to take sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively.
The Rockets are back in competition on Friday, Sept. 8 at the ISU Country Financial Invitational in Normal, Ill.
