Toledo Sits in Sixth Place After Opening Day of MAC Championships

OXFORD, OH – Toledo concluded opening day of the 2016-17 Mid-American Conference Championships in sixth place with 50 points.

UT swam to a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay and touched sixth in 800 freestyle relay. All eight Rockets recorded season-best split times in their events.

"We has a great start to the meet today," said Head Coach Jonas Persson. "We were seeded eighth in the 200 medley and finished seventh, and we finished as we expected we would in the 800 free relay. All eight athletes raced extremely hard and swam some of their best splits ever. The team's spirits are high and we are competing as a team. We can't wait for our first prelim session tomorrow morning!"
In the evening's first event, freshman Maureen O'Sullivan (25.76), junior Jessica Avery (28.30), Duda Sales (24.65) and junior Allison Dicke (23.04) touched the wall at a time of 1:41.80 in the 200 medley.

In the second and final event of opening night, freshman Izzy Jones (1:49.06), freshman Anna Dunphy (1:52.90), junior Emily Frederick (1:53.50) and junior Maggie Hack (1:49.00) stopped the clock at 7:25.45 in the 800 free relay.

Day two of competition begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with preliminaries at Miami's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Championship heats of the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 free and 1-meter diving are slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
