Toledo Registers Seventh-Place Finish at Rain-Shortened Wolf Run Intercollegiate

ZIONSVILLE, IN - Toledo registered a seventh-place finish at the rain-shortened Wolf Run Intercollegiate on Sunday. The tourney was hosted by Big Ten member Indiana at the Wolf Run Golf Club (Par-71, 7,155 Yards).
The event was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but was adjusted to 36 after well over an inch of rain fell on Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The Rockets fired a team score of 35-over par 603 (296-307) to finish seventh among 14 squads.
Illinois won the event going away with a tally of seven-under par 561 (288-273). The Fighting Illini fired a blistering team score of 273 during today's final round to post a 13-stroke advantage over runner-up Purdue (277-297=574) and a 42-shot lead against UT.
Freshman Thomas Thurloway paced the Midnight Blue & Gold at three-over par 145 (70-75) and tied for 14th place in his second collegiate event.
Junior Colin Joseph finished four strokes behind Thurloway and tied for 29th place at seven-over par 149 (72-77), while junior Stephen Watts posted UT's best round of the day with a three-over par 74 and finished tied for 37th spot at eight-over par 150 (76-74).
Rounding out Toledo's lineup were sophomore Jamie Knipe who shot 18-over par 160 (78-82) to tie for 66th place and classmate Spencer Shoemaker posted a score of 19-over par 161 (80-81) to tie for the 68th spot, respectively.
Illinois' Nick Hardy secured medalist honors with a score of four-under par 138 (69-69) and held a one-stroke advantage over teammate Dylan Meyer (73-66=139). In total, the Fighting Illini had four golfers finish in the Top Six.
Toledo will return to the links on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 19-20 when it hosts the Inverness Intercollegiate at the historic Inverness Club. Making up this year's field will be Auburn, Austin Peay, Ball State, Bowling Green, Duke, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Saint Mary's (CA) and Virginia.
