Toledo Rests in 8th Place Following First Day at Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo finds itself in eighth place following the opening 36 holes at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday. The 12th-annual tournament is being played at the historic Inverness Club (Par-71, 7,323 Yards).
The Rockets are being paced by freshman Thomas Thurloway who is tied for 16th place at one-over par 143 (71-72). Junior Stephen Watts is UT's the next highest golfer at seven-over par 149 (78-71) and sits tied for the 38th spot, followed closely by junior Colin Joseph at nine-over par 151 (72-79) and tied for 43rd place. Rounding out Toledo's lineup are freshmen Joe Bryce who is tied for 51st place at 10-over par 152 (79-73) and sophomore Jamie Knipe who is tied for the 69th spot at 15-over par 157 (74-83), respectively.
In addition, Toledo has two players who are competing as individuals in the fall's third event. Freshman Grant Godfrey is tied for 57th place at 11-over par 153 (76-77) and sophomore Spencer Shoemaker is tied for 74th place at 20-over par 162 (79-83). Godfrey and Bryce are competing in their first collegiate events as members of the Midnight Blue & Gold.Â
ACC member Duke is currently leading the 13-team standings after shooting an impressive 10-under par 558 (277-281) and holds a three-shot cushion over SEC participant Auburn at seven-under par 561 (280-281). The Blue Devils eclipsed the tourney's lowest round score by four shots, previously held by Florida State in 2007. The Rockets are currently 32 strokes back of Duke with a score of 22-over par 590 (295-295).
Individually, Auburn's Matt Gilchrest sits atop the leaderboard at six-under par 136 (64-72) and maintains a one-stroke advantage over Duke's Matt Oshrine at six-under par 137 (67-70). Gilchrest shot a tourney-record seven-under par 64 in today's opening round. Four of the Blue Devils top five players currently reside in the Top 10.
The third and final round of the two-day tourney will be held on Tuesday, with Toledo's tee times beginning at 8:05 a.m. off hole No. 10. The event is free and open to the public. Â Â Â
