Toledo Concludes Fall Season with 13th-Place Finish at Saint Mary’s Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, CA – Toledo concluded its fall campaign with a 13th place-finish at the 11th-annual Saint Mary's Invitational on Wednesday. The three-day event took place at the par-71, 6,868-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course and was hosted by Saint Mary's (CA).
The Rockets posted a team score of 63-over par 613 (303-310-302) over the course of 54 holes, 62 shots behind team champion San Diego State (299-280-274) at one-over par 853. The host Gaels finished as the tourney runner-up at 13-over par 865 (296-287-282).
Freshman Thomas Thurloway paced UT at nine-over par 222 (72-76-74) and finished tied for 18th place.
Junior Stephen Watts was the next closest Rocket at 12-over par 225 (75-78-72) to sit tied for 41st place, followed by freshman Joe Bryce at 23-over par 236 (83-77-76) to place tied for 67th spot. Watts fired the squad's best round of the day with a tally of one-over par 72.
Rounding out Toledo's lineup were freshman Grant Godfrey and junior Colin Joseph at 26-over par 239 (79-80-80) and 28-over par 241 (77-79-85) to find themselves tied for 77th place and 80th place, respectively.
Also competing in the fall's final event was sophomore Spencer Shoemaker who finished at 11-over par 224 (74-76-74) to sit tied for 34th place.
Individually, Saint Mary's (CA) Eduardo Carrete secured medalist honors at three-under par 210 (69-68-73), one shot ahead of San Diego State's PJ Samiere at two-under par 211 (77-67-67).
UT will open its spring season by competing in the MAC Match Play Championship on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 13-14 in Lake Jovita, FL.
