TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo has accepted an invitation to play Temple of the American Athletic Conference in the 2015 Marmot Boca Bowl at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, FL, UT Athletic Director Mike O'Brien announced on Sunday. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and will be televised on ESPN.
Â
"We are very excited to be selected to play in the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl," said O'Brien. "The Rocket Nation sends a thank you to Executive Director Doug Mosley and the entire Marmot Boca Raton Bowl team selection committee. We have heard nothing but great things about FAU Stadium and the terrific job the committee does in hosting this bowl. I'm confident that our players, coaches and fans will enjoy a terrific bowl experience in south Florida."
Â
UT head coach Jason Candle, who will be debuting as head coach in the bowl game, was enthusiastic about his team's bowl destination.
Â
"The Boca Raton Bowl will provide our players with an outstanding bowl experience, as well as the opportunity to play against a very tough Temple team," said Candle. "Playing in the Boca Raton Bowl is an excellent reward for our players, coaches and everyone involved in our team's success."
Â
Candle assumed the head coaching position on Dec. 2 following the departure of Matt Campbell to Iowa State and the conclusion of the regular season. Candle had been an assistant at UT for the past seven years, the last four as the offensive coordinator
Â
The Rockets (9-2, 6-2 MAC) are co-champions of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference, sharing the crown with Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Central Michigan. NIU won the four-way tie-breaker and advanced to the MAC Championship Game.
Â
Toledo was ranked in the Top 25 for six weeks this season, rising to No. 19 in the AP poll on Oct. 18. The Rockets defeated two teams from Power Five conferences in successive weeks, then-No. 18 Arkansas on Sept. 12 and Iowa State on Sept. 19.
Â
The Rockets will be playing in their 15th bowl and fifth in the last six years. UT is 10-4 all-time in bowl games, including a 63-44 victory over Arkansas State at the GoDaddy Bowl in Mobile last January.
