Toledo head coach Matt Campbell
Opening statement: “First and foremost that was a great football game. When you talk about a rivalry, I thought both these teams played extremely hard. It was a well-fought win for our Toledo Rockets. I couldn't be more proud of our 17 seniors. Our senior class really played their tails off.”
On the Toledo fans: “Our fans were unbelieveable. We are talking about a cold Wednesday night but our students and fans were incredible. I want to thank them for the support tonight.”
On RB Kareem Hunt's 30 carries: “I wanted him to run it as much as possible. Last week he only got 18 carries and we felt like he needed to touch the ball more. Kareem Hunt needs the ball in his hands and I think you saw why.”
On playing both QB Dwight Macon and QB Logan Woodside: “Last week, Dwight showed that he can make some plays with the ball in his hands. Logan really sparked us. With him not 100% it was very important to have the services of Dwight. I thought it was imperative to get both of them in the game early and make a game plan for both of them to be successful.”
Toleod RB Kareem Hunt
On the 91-yard TD run: “Our offensive line did a great job with a pull-block and I saw nothing but grass and just one person out there so I said to myself that we were going to score right here. I was just trying to do everything I could to get us up by seven.”
On the offensive line: “Our offensive line played really well despite missing the heartbeat of the line in Greg Mancz. They are still really experienced and played hard. I just did my best to get every yard I could.”
Toledo OL Jeff Myers
On playing this rivalry game without Senior Captain Greg Mancz: “It was tough for all of us that Greg couldn't go tonight. He is a guy that never stops leading. He was on the sideline with a headset on and let us know what he was seeing when we came to the sideline. He deserves every bit of this win as the guys playing.”
On warming up without a shirt despite below freezing temps: “Part of me thought it was funny but also last week was cold and a lot of guys were cold on the sideline. I wanted to show the guys that its not that cold. I mean I am out here without a shirt on. Don't complain.”
Toleod LB Ray Bush
On the rivalry with BG: “We love to play BG. We play this game for anyone who has ever put on the Toledo jersey. We like to win.”
On the defenses progression: “We have come a long way. We have a lot of young guys and a lot of our guys got dinged up early. We have grown up a lot these last few weeks. We have grown in all aspects of the defense. We have made a lot of plays that we didn't make earlier in the season. We will only get better.”
Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers
Thoughts on the game: “I am just disappointed, for the seniors. They are a very good football team and they deserved to win this side of the division. I would really like to give the seniors one more chance against them.”
On Toledo RB Kareem Hunt: “He went 91 yards on us and we can't run him down. He has fabulous speed and balance, can go the duration. He is an excellent tailback.”
On game's momentum: “Momentum is everything, a play doesn't go right for us, and a play goes right for them, then there goes everything and that is a 14 point swing. In a seven point game, my hat goes off to them.”
Bowling Green WR Ronnie Moore
On the BG game plan: “We tried to put the ball in my hands more, so could make more plays with my legs. That was pretty much our game plan.”
On having new quarterback: “I told my group of receivers, that no matter who is at quarterback, if we work together we are going to make plays.”
On the emotions on losing: “It's hard losing to them (Toledo) last year, and the seniors last year felt it pretty bad and now seeing the seniors this year feel it pretty bad. It hit me a little bit, but we will see them again.”
Bowling Green LB Gabe Martin
On field goal block: “It was definitely an exciting part of the game, it changed the momentum around a little bit but it didn't pay off in the end and we came up short.”
On losing to Toledo: “It sucks, I haven't beaten them since I have been here. I hope we get them again to be perfectly honest with you.”
On Toledo RB Kareem Hunt: “He's a good back, he can go. We had a hard time taking him down. He broke tackles one-on-one and that killed us throughout the course of the game. We needed to put more of a pounding on him. We didn't make him earn as much as we should have.”
