Former Rocket safety Tyrrell Herbert (Pittsburgh, PA) signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills late Sunday night. He will report to the Bills' mini-camp on Thursday, with the camp will taking place Friday-Sunday.
"I'm very excited," said Herbert. "I'm going to do my best to make the team. Hopefully, I'll be sticking around."
Herbert played five seasons with the Rockets, redshirting the 2007 campaign due to an injury suffered in the season opener vs. Purdue. He came back in 2008 and led the team with four interceptions. He also finished third on the team with 79 tackles
Herbert's biggest interception of the 2008 season came in Toledo's 13-10 win at Michigan. He scored UT's only touchdown of the game on a 100-yard interception return, the longest return in school and Michigan Stadium history. The play earned UT a $5,000 scholarship for the Pontiac Game-Changing Play of the Week.
Herbert finished his UT career with eight interceptions and 254 tackles. He started every game in the 2005, 2006 and 2008 seasons, and was team captain in 2006 and 2007.
Herbert is the second Rocket to sign a free agent deal. Wide receiver Nick Moore inked a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
