Florida International at Toledo
Sept. 27, 2008
Toledo, OH (Glass Bowl)
Head Coach Tom Amstutz
“The game came down to the third quarter when we had two turnovers. We didn't have the momentum we needed to have to get things going. When you have three big turnovers like that and then a kickoff return into the red zone you put yourself into jeopardy. That's where we were and we didn't bounce back.”
“I give them credit. They're a good football team. I saw on film how good they were. They battled South Florida and played nose to nose with them. They're very athletic with a lot of team speed on offense and defense.”
“T.Y. Hilton had the big screen pass in the second quarter that really affected the game and then had a great kickoff return to start the second half. He's a really outstanding player. We didn't have an answer for that.”
“We didn't play as sharp as we need to play. We need to play with great passion. We didn't bounce back from the turnover like we need to.”
“They got pressure (on the quarterback). They're strong up front.”
“We definitely missed DeJuane (Collins) today. We'll get him back next week and he'll be ready to go. Morgan (Williams) still ran hard and gained almost 100 yards, but we'd like to have DeJuane back next week.”
Junior QB Aaron Opelt
“Florida International had a very good defense. Unfortunately we put ourselves into situations where they knew what we were going to do. We need fewer turnovers and we need to control the game clock. I don't think we did that today.”
“I think we played hard. We just had a few things not go our way. A lot of that's our fault, but you to give Florida International a lot of credit. They're a good team and they came to play.”
“We didn't play as well as we should have. Everyone knows that. We made a lot of mistakes. We have a long way to go in practice this week.”
Junior S Barry Church
“Their offensive line did a great job down-blocking on the weak side of the field. They seemed to create a lot of holes.”
“Our defense tried to hold them out as long as we could but they always made one play.”
“I thought we had a great week of practice but they just came out a little more fired up than we were.”
