FIU at Toledo
Sept. 27, 2008 (Glass Bowl)
Post-Game Notes
Toledo finished the game with 302 yards of total offense and 20 first downs while FIU had 239 yards and 12 first downs. The Rockets ran 77 plays in the loss, compared to only 58 for the Golden Panthers.
The last time Toledo lost its first two home games was 1985 when the Rockets lost to Ball State and Miami.
This is first time UT has lost two non-conference home games since 1964 when the Rockets lost to Villanova and Tulsa. Toledo lost last week to Fresno State, 55-54 in double overtime.
Toledo had four turnovers, including three fumbles, while FIU did not have a turnover. Two of the fumbles led to FIU touchdowns, both in the third quarter.
Redshirt freshman RB Morgan Williams started his first career game in place of the injured DaJuane Collins. Williams finished with 98 yards on a career-high 25 carries.
Junior PK Alex Steigerwald booted three fields, including a career-long 47-yarder in the second quarter. The three field goals ties his career high mark. Steigerwald has now made 23-straight field goals, extending his own MAC record. The NCAA mark is 30, set by Washington's Chuck Nelson (1981-82). Steigerwald is 28-of-29 in field-goal attempts in his career.
Toledo scored its only touchdown on a 31-yard wide receiver option from senior Nick Moore to junior Stephen Williams on its first possession of the game. It was Moore's second completion of the season, both to Williams.
The Rockets tallied a season-low 16 points, their lowest scoring output at home since they tallied 13 points vs. Eastern Michigan on Oct. 23, 1999.
Toledo held a slight 30:57-29:03 edge in time of possession for the game, but FIU controlled the clock in the second half with a 18:42-11:18 advantage.
Senior Nick Moore caught a game-high and season-high nine passes for 65 yards. Moore came into tonight's games with only six catches on the season.
Sophomore Archie Donald and junior Skylaar Constant paced the UT defense with eight tackles each.
This was the first meeting between Toledo and FIU. The two teams will square off in Miami next year.
