Today's loss snapped Toledo's six-game win streak at Huskie Stadium. UT's last setback on NIU's home turf occurred on Nov. 11, 1989. The final score on that afternoon was 39-27.
Junior WR Stephen Williams caught a game-high nine passes for 75 yards. With today's stats, Williams is now eighth in school history with 129 career receptions and ninth with 1,739 receiving yards.
Junior QB Aaron Opelt suffered an injury midway through the fourth quarter and did not return. Opelt was replaced under center by sophomore Alex Pettee. The Fremont, OH native had taken every snap this season prior to the injury. He finished the game, completing 16-of-22 passes for 138 yards. Following the game, Toledo Head Coach Tom Amstutz was quoted as saying that Opelt was not seriously injured and should be in the starting lineup next Saturday vs. Central Michigan.
Sophomore CB Desmond Marrow suffered a leg injury on the first play of the game and did not return. Marrow's status is uncertain for next weekend. He was replaced in the starting lineup by junior CB Joe Bates. The Oakland, CA native had two tackles in the contest.
Junior WR Robin Bailey made his second career start and hauled in two passes for 29 yards.
Redshirt freshman RB Morgan Williams carried the ball a team-high eight times for 50 yards, including a 21-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Sophomore Archie Donald paced the Rockets' defense with a game-high 11 tackles. Donald has now tallied double-digit stops in the last three games. The Pittsburgh, OH native lead the team with 61 tackles for the season.
Toledo opened the second half with an 11-play drive, which resulted in a 21-yard touchdown run by Morgan Williams. The Rockets have now tallied 11 drives this season of at least 10 plays.
Redshirt freshman P Bill Klaus punted the ball four times and averaged 41.8 yards per punt.
Sophomore QB Alex Pettee saw his first action as a member of the Rockets in the fourth quarter in place of the injured Aaron Opelt. Pettee completed 1-for-2 passes for 11 yards.
