Head Coach Tom Amstutz
“It was a great win. I was especially proud of our players after not winning our last three games. Besides the win today, the biggest thing the players learned was that when things aren't going great you have to battle. We've been looking at film of ourselves and seeing how important execution is to win a game. We've had little execution problems that have made big differences in games. Today we executed and that ended up being the difference.”
“I give the players credit for staying together and focused. That's your goal is as a coach. When things aren't going right you don't give up and point fingers. You stay together and battle.”
“This is obviously a great win. They all feel good, but this is a special one for us as a team.”
(on holding Michigan to 290 yards)
“We have good speed on defense. We can run to the ball. Coach (Tim) Rose did a great job and we played with a lot of intensity and heart. They really stepped up. I've seen signs of it throughout the year but this is the first time they put a whole game together.”
(on defense keeping the team in the game)
“It takes guts. When the offense is down it's easy for the defense to give up and the defense didn't do that. They came up with big plays on their own and that allowed things to work for us.”
(on Nick Moore tying a MAC record with 20 catches)
“Nick has excellent hands. We liked the matchups we had and the way we could use our offense. We knew we couldn't overpower Michigan. Their defensive line and linebackers are outstanding. They have have some great football players so we had to pick our spots.”
(on Alex Steigerwald coming back after missing a field goal)
“I had great confidence in him. His miss was more of a timing issue. The snap was high and we couldn't get the ball down. It wasn't his fault and I told him that on the sidelines.”
Junior placekicker Alex Steigerwald
(on his range of emotions)
“I never get upset about missing. I always feel like the next kick is the most important. I build up my confidence after misses because I want to go out and get the next one. I was calm throughout the whole game. I went out at halftime and kicked from the right hash and was kicking well. Then I went out and executed.”
(on the 48-yard field goal)
“The ball skipped twice before it got to Aaron (Opelt). He just got it down when I got there. I kicked it and saw it go up and I was hoping it would make it. It hit the crossbar and went in and it was like ?Wow'.”
Senior wide receiver Nick Moore
(On record-breaking 20 receptions)
“It's not about me at all. I'm just glad our team stuck together in hard times and came out with a big victory.”
“Our coaches had a good game plan. They knew we had to get the ball out quick. Aaron (Opelt) played a great game.”
“Coming into Michigan Stadium with three straight losses at home, a victory does a tremendous amount for our confidence.”
“I never thought I would have that many catches anywhere?little league, high school, anything.”
Senior free safety Tyrrell Herbert
(on 100-yard interception return)
“It was a bootleg play. I just read it. The tight end showed he wasn't run-blocking so I just followed him across the field. He was a big guy, so I hid behind him and the quarterback didn't see me. He threw it and I cut in front of him and went the other way.”
“I was tired. I was running and looked up at the jumbotron and I saw a shadow. I just said, ?Please, don't let me get caught.' I just made it in there. It was a good feeling to score in the Big House. When you make a play like that it just fuels the fire.”
(on second interception)
“It was a tipped ball. When there is a tipped ball you think it's your ball. I just went up and got it, and made sure I secured it.”
“Coming in here we were positive. We knew we had a chance to win the game. We knew that we were the underdogs, but we knew we could win.”
(on playing in Michigan Stadium)
“Once you hit the field, it's just football. It's a big stadium but after the second or third play you don't even hear the crowd. Football is football. You just line up and play. It isn't about how many people your stadium can hold. It's about x's and o's and who want's it more.”
“This means a lot to me personally. I sat out last year (with an injury) so it's a good feeling to come in here and get a win. It's probably the biggest win in my college career. This is something I will always remember.”
“We're back. We're back on track.”
Junior QB Aaron Opelt
“Defensively, what can you say about these guys? Herb returns a pick 100 yards. The turnovers put us in good field position.”
“Nick (Moore) is a gamer. He's got great hands. I was joking with him that I have better hands, but he got me today. All the catches he had you also have to look at the yards after contact. He does a great job finding windows. He's an excellent receiver and I love throwing to him.”
(Steigerwald's 48-yard field goal)
“The snap was a little big low but you've got to handle those. That was a huge kick by Alex. That shows you he's a great kicker. He can flush things down the drain (previous miss) and make big plays after that.”
“Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to play in the Big House. My first time ever being here was playing today. So that was exciting, seeing all the fans. It felt great. It was an awesome accomplishment.”
Senior DT Sean Williamson
(on last missed field goal)
“We got a little pressure on the inside. Watching film, we knew if we got some pressure the kicker gets a little startled.”
“We were ready for both quarterbacks. They've been doing it all year. It's no surprise to us.”
(on Herbert's TD)
“That's a big play and big momentum boost.”
Freshman free safety Mark Singer
“Of course I was nervous. It's the Big House, it's Michigan. But as soon as I got on the field it was just football again.”
(on interception)
“The tight end came across. I saw that it was overthrown, so I knew there was a possibility of a tipped ball. The ball was tipped so I just made a play on the ball. Once the ball is in the air, it's our ball.”
