Toledo, OH - Former Rocket linebacker Mike Alston signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday immediately following the NFL Draft. Alston, who earned first-team All-MAC honors in both his junior and senior seasons at Toledo, will report to the Browns for a mini-camp this Thursday.
"I'm very excited about signing with Cleveland," said Alston. "I had a couple of other options but I think it's the best situation for me."
Alston, 6-2, 233 pounds, said he had a hunch he would sign with the Browns after he was timed at 4.47 in the 40-yard dash in a workout with Cleveland.
"I had a good workout with them so I knew if I didn't get drafted they would want to sign me," said Alston. "I'm happy with how it worked out."
