TOLEDO, OH - University of Toledo senior punter Brett Kern (Grand Island, NY) was named third-team All-America by the Associated Press on Dec. 11.
Kern was the only player from the Mid-American Conference to be named to the AP All-America team, generally considered to be the most prestigious post-season honor roll in college football.
Kern, the MAC Special Teams Player of the Year, finished the season ranked second in the nation in punting average (46.1). He was one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation's top punter. He also was named second-team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and has a 3.38 grade point average in geography. He has been selected to play in the Hula Bowl on Jan. 12.
