Toledo Drops Two at Ohio State

Columbus, OH - The University of Toledo softball team traveled to Big Ten power Ohio State on Tuesday and came away with a pair of losses. The Buckeyes took the first game 8-2 and the second 13-8. The Rockets made an impressive comeback in the nightcap, scoring five runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the Buckeye lead to 12-8, but fell short. With the losses, the Rockets fall to 11-25 overall, while Ohio State is 26-14.
In game one, the Rockets once again the Rockets fell behind early, surrendering three runs with two outs in the bottom of the first. Toledo got on the board in the third inning after loading the bases, when Erica Singer hit a two-out single to score Leslie Stong and Gina Muratori. Valerie Moxim flew out to prevent any further damage for the Buckeyes.
Toledo was led at the plate in game one by Denise Van Vossen's, who was 2-3 and Erica Singer, who went 1-3 with both RBI for the Rockets.
Stephanie Moore pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs to take the loss on the mound, dropping her record to 6-13.
In game two, the Rockets returned the favor and jumped ahead early with three runs in the top of the first. Megan McCauley picked up a pair of RBI with a two-out single to put the Rockets on top 3-0. A pair of errors by the Buckeyes helped the Rocket cause, as well.
The Buckeyes promptly took the lead in their half of the inning, however, with a grand slam by Chelsea Baker, and added three additional runs to take a 7-3 lead.
Toledo got some runs on the board in the fifth, when a McCauley double scored Muratori and Singer, making the score 12-5. The Rockets continued on the comeback trail in the sixth with another three to bring them to within 12-8. OSU, however, picked up an insurance marker in the sixth and held on in the seventh to pick up the victory and complete the sweep.
McCauley led Toledo at the plate with two hits and four RBI.
Sierra Pereira couldn't get out of the first inning and took the loss on the mound, falling to 5-12 on the year.
The Rockets return to action with a Mid-American Conference doubleheader at Miami on Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
