Ball State at Toledo
Nov. 14, 2006
Toledo, OH - Glass Bowl
Toledo's seven-game winning streak against the Cardinals in the Glass Bowl was snapped with tonight's loss. It was Ball State's first win in Toledo since 1991.
The loss drops Head Coach Tom Amstutz's record in November to 13-4.
Junior RB Jalen Parmele carried the ball 20 times for a career-high 173 yards and one touchdown, including a career-long 92-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The 92-yard scamper is the second longest run from scrimmage in school history and the longest run from scrimmage by a Rocket in a MAC contest.
Parmele now has gained over 100 yards in three straight games and four times this season. His previous career high was 145 yards vs. Akron on Oct. 28, 2006.
Parmele was also the 11th player in school history to surpass 1,000 yards rushing in a single season. It marked the 14th time in the 86-year history of UT football that a Rockets running back eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in a season.
Senior TE Chris Hopkins scored his seventh touchdown of the season which ties him for ninth in school history for TD's in a season. He is tied for second in UT annals for TD's in a season with Andrew Clarke in 2002. The school record is eight TD's by Clarke in 2003.
Freshman PK Alex Steigerwald kicked a career-long 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 17-17. However, he missed a 36-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the second quarter to mark his first miss this season. The missed field-goal attempt was also the first for the Rockets since Jason Robbins misfired on a 36-yarder against Ohio on Oct. 16, 2004.
Freshman QB Aaron Opelt made his sixth straight start and completed 2-of-3 passes for 16 yards. Sophomore QB Clint Cochran came on in relief and completed 12-of-23 passes for 136 yards.
Senior WR Steve Odom finished with one catch for six yards and has now caught a pass in 48 straight games, every game of his career and the longest streak in the nation. He needs just six receptions to pass UT's all-time leader, Lance Moore (222 from 2001-04), and become Toledo's all-time leading receiver.
