Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Akron at Toledo (Oct. 28, 2006) Glass Bowl (Toledo, OH)

Toledo Head Coach Tom Amstutz

(on WR Nick Moore's 42-yard pass to TE Chris Hopkins)

"It's a play we have in our package and Akron was giving us a lot of pressure on our short screens and coming up hard. It was the right time and situation to go for it and Nick threw a nice pass and Chris came up with a big catch. It was a great momentum play for us."

(on junior RB Jalen Parmalee's 27-carry, 145-yard effort)

Jalen's giving great effort and running really hard. He averaged over five yards per carry and I thought he gained strength as the game went on. He's starting to get some confidence and he's getting some good blocking."

(on forcing turnovers in the first half to take a 21-0 lead)

"Those are huge plays. We were stung by turnovers earlier in the season and now we're hungry to make those plays. Our defensive backs came up with those and our defensive line was able to put a lot of good pressure on the quarterback. There was some real good individual effort out there, and those guys are playing hard and playing to win."

Toledo RB Jalen Parmele

"It starts up front. Our offensive line and tight ends did a great job. We knew we had to run. We opened up a lot of run formations and just got it done.

"It's been awhile since we've had a victory. We came close at Eastern Michigan and fell short. But tonight we stepped it up and got the win."

Toleod Junior LB Greg Hay

"Our game plan was to put pressure on him (QB Luke Getsy) all game long. We had nothing to lose so we were going after him all game long."

Toledo Freshman PK Alex Steigerwald

"We he (Head Coach Tom Amstutz) called it, I was ready. We've been working on it the last couple of weeks."

Akron Head Coach J.D. Brookhart

(Opening Comments)

"We gave away too much early to Toledo when we had opportunities. We would get down to the 15-yard line and then we would get a penalty to back us up and we also some drops and an interception. Those are points that could have gone either way real quick. Those are things that add up and build momentum. I thought our kids fought back, and we had our opportunities in the second half. We got close, but we didn't get it done."

(Comments on Toledo's Gadget Plays)

"We prepared for the bubble pass as we had seen it many times before, but we misplayed it. On the field goal, we were in a pretty desperate situation trying to get the block and one of our kids got absolutely mauled off the edge and they scored."
