Jon Carr Named Receivers Coach

Toledo, OH - Jon Carr was officially named receivers coach at the University of Toledo, UT head coach Tom Amstutz announced today.
Carr, the offensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois the past two seasons, fills the position vacated by John Shannon, who was promoted to the offensive coordinator post earlier this year.
Last year, Carr's offense was second in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring (26.5 points per game), fourth in passing (224 yards per game) and third in rushing (167 ypg).
In addition to his post at Eastern Illinois, Carr was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee State from 1997-2002. In 2001 Carr's Tiger offense was third in I-AA in passing (302 ypg), sixth in total offense (465 ypg) and 14th in scoring (35.4 ppg). The 1998 (9-3) and 1999 Tiger teams (11-1) were the Ohio Valley Conference champions and qualified for the NCAA I-AA playoffs each of those years.
During the summer of 2002, Carr was a member of the Oakland Raiders' preseason coaching staff as part of the NFL's Minority Internship Program. He's also worked with the National Football League Properties as the Program Coordinator for Chicago and Detroit summer youth inner-city football camps.
Prior to joining Tennessee State's staff in 1997, Carr was offensive coordinator at Chicago Leo High School (1994-96), which won the 1996 Red Division of the Chicago Catholic League. He also was the quarterbacks coach at Chicago Julian High School from 1991-94.
Carr was a quarterback at Southeast Missouri from 1987-89 under the tutelage of then assistant coach Jon Gruden, currently the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He transferred to Purdue, earning a degree in law and society in 1991. He graduated from Chicago Mendel Catholic High School in 1987.
