Softball Swept In Doubleheader By MAC East Leader Akron

Toledo, OH - Toledo (10-28-1, 1-13 MAC) dropped a pair of games today to MAC East Division leader Akron (25-9, 15-3 MAC) in a doubleheader at Scott Park.
The Rockets put up a strong fight in the opening game behind senior starter Colette McMasters (4-11). McMasters fanned a career-high 11 batters in her complete-game performance. She allowed just two unearned runs in the game's first nine innings before surrendering three runs to the Zips in the 10th frame.
The Rockets sent the game into extra innings in the bottom of the seventh on sophomore 2B Vicki Nelson's two-out RBI single.
UT scored its first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single from freshman 3B Crystal Rizzuto. Rizzuto led the Rockets' attack with three hits.
Toledo committed two errors in the second inning which led to the Zips' first run and one in the sixth leading to Akron's second run.
In the second game, the Zips took control early with three runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run homer by Julie Villard.
Akron added one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.
The Rockets attempted to come back and plated one run in the sixth and one in the seventh on an RBI single from freshman DP Kim Pettitt and an RBI double from senior 1B Deanna House.
Sophomore Cortney Winslow (2-2) took the loss for the Rockets on the mound.
