Post-Game Quotes
Nov. 30, 2002 - Toledo, OH
BGSU Head Coach-Urban Meyer
"I thought we fought hard. I'm very disappointed obviously. Our offense did not perform well."
(on next season) "We set goals for ourselves every year. Last year was eight wins, this year was nine and next year will be ten."
(regret fake punt in third quarter?) "I regret it. But our program is extremely aggressive. We ask our kids to play aggressively on offense and defense. In the second half we stalled out on defense and that's not our type of football."
Toledo Head Coach- Tom Amstutz
"This team is made up of a bunch of special guys. They give it their all and play to win, and I am very proud of them. This is such a great feeling, keeping the Rocket tradition alive. I am very thankful to have had the chance to be a coach at the University of Toledo."
"At the beginning of the season everybody underestimated Brian Jones--players, coaches and even Brian himself. He has done a tremendous job this season. He is our leader and quite a football player."
"Josh Harris is a great player. He has tremendous talent. We made them (BGSU) play on a long field and we played strong team defense."
"We are very thankful to go back to the Motor City Bowl. Everything about the Motor City Bowl is first class, and we can't wait to be apart of it again."
Tom Ward
"We just came in here and we knew we had to play our game. We were getting put in some rough field position at times and we had to buckle up and play our positions out there. The game was won in the trenches. Our offensive line wore them down and our defensive line wore them down in the middle."
Carl Ford
"Once we got the momentum we didn't want to let it go. There've been times this year when other teams have the momentum and we have to take it from them. We got it tonight and we kept it rolling. We knew we had a lot at stake.
(On MAC West Championship and the Motor City Bowl)
"It definitely feels good this year because we had a lot of people doubting us a little bit. We lost a lot of star players which people thought we were going to fall off the map a little bit so it definitely feels good that we made it a team effort this year."
Brian Jones
"We finished with a great win and it elevated us into the Motor City Bowl. Last year at this time we didn't know what to think (loss to BG). It was a tough game last year and a bad way to start my Division I career. But it was a different outcome tonight and it meant everything to us. We got past those three teams (last three games) and it all came down to this."
Astin Martin
"We knew coming in that we had to run the ball to win. They are not that big up front so we had to learn their system and what they were doing out there. After we found out what they were doing we just kept pounding the ball inside."
(After blocked punt)
"After that point everything started rolling and everything started clicking. I'm fortunate to be on a team with a bunch of guys that will never quit no matter what the situation and we were just fortunate to pull it out."
Trinity Dawson
"All year people have been trying to stop our run. They think that's the key to our offense but as of the last couple weeks Brian Jones have been making the big runs and the big plays. That has been taking a lot of pressure off of us."
Chris Tuminello
"We've got a lot of great skilled players. As far as the guys up front, as long as we execute and just get our blocks and hold our blocks we know our offense is going to make plays. We've got three tremendous running backs behind us and a great quarterback and a bunch of skilled wide receivers. So as long as we can do that, we have total confidence in them that they are going to get it done."
