2025 Official Nomination Form
Nominations are due by April 25, 2025
Criteria for Nomination
1. Any former varsity student-athlete who earned at least one varsity letter, performed with athletic distinction at the University of Toledo and completed their last season of participation at least ten (10) years prior to the induction year. The student-athlete need not necessarily be a graduate. For the 2025 class, nominees must not have been active on or after July 1, 2015.
2. Any coach, athletic administrator, trainer, etc., who has served on University of Toledo athletic staff with distinction for a period of five (5) years and who has retired, resigned, or otherwise separated from his/her position for a period of five (5) years. For the 2025 class, nominees must not have been active on or after July 1, 2020.
3. Members will be chosen by a 3/4 vote of the selection committee.
II. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee
1. Made up of eight (8) members and one (1) alternate
2. Voting members of the selection committee shall be:
A. The Athletic Director or his/her designee
B. The Associate Athletic Director for Communications
C. The President of the Varsity T Club
D. Five (5) Varsity T Club Executive Board Members appointed by the President of the Varsity T Club.
E. One (1) alternate who will only receive voting rights in the event that an appointed Executive Board Member from the above list is absent.
3. All Executive Board Members of the Varsity T Club not on the Selection Committee are invited to the selection meeting but do not have voting rights.
III. Procedures for Hall of Fame Selection
1. Anyone may submit a nomination to the Hall of Fame.
2. The nomination must be submitted electronically or in writing. Nominations should be supported with as much historical data (records, clippings, support letters, etc.) as possible of consideration by the selection committee.
3. ALL nominations/supporting materials/letter of recommendation, etc. MUST be submitted to the Athletic Department by the deadline listed above. Items submitted after this date WILL NOT be reviewed by the committee until next year’s nomination process commences.
4. Names of unsuccessful nominees will remain on the ballot in perpetuity. There shall be no limit to the number of times a person can be considered by the selection committee. A list of current nominees can be found at UTRockets.com/HOF.
5. The selection committee members will each present at least five (5) nominations from the list of nominees that were submitted by the deadline or from previous years’ submissions. During initial nomination process, open discussion of candidate qualifications, etc. may be had by the Selection Committee. Once all nominations are made, there will be rounds of voting until the induction class is selected.
A. In the first round, each member of the selection committee present will vote for six (6) nominees in a secret ballot. The ballots will be read out loud by the President or his/her designee and tallied. A nominee must win the approval of at least six (6) members of the eight (8) member selection committee or 3/4 of those present to gain membership of the Hall of Fame.
B. If the first round does not net a minimum of six (6) inductees, additional rounds of secret ballots will be held until the minimum number of inductees is obtained. After the first round of voting, the President maintains the right to determine the number of votes cast by selection committee members in a given round based on the quantity of candidates left in voting pool with the goal to produce a minimum of six (6) inductees in mind.
6. All voting and discussions regarding the applicants will be kept confidential by all present at the selection meeting.
IV. Distinguished Service Award or Lifetime Varsity T Member
1. The selection committee may also consider awarding a Distinguished Service Award or a Lifetime Varsity T Membership.
V. Hall of Fame Recognition
1. Members will be honored at a Toledo football or basketball game.
2. A special section of Savage Arena will be dedicated to Hall of Fame members and their pictures will be displayed there.
3. Members will be presented an appropriate plaque or award at a banquet prior to the day of the game at which they are to be honored.
