Toledo, Ohio - The Downtown Coaches Association (DCA) of the University of Toledo is looking to add members to the organization for the 2018-19 academic year. For a small annual fee ($40 per person, $50 per couple), supporters can join a network of over 200 Toledo supporters while also gaining behind-the-scenes access to UT coaches and student-athletes at the DCA's weekly luncheons.
Â
The DCA works to promote, encourage and stimulate interest in intercollegiate athletics at UT, and is a major contributor to UT Athletics through 50/50 raffles at all home football and basketball games. Through DCA's efforts, almost $90,000 was raised during the 2017-18 academic year.
Â
"The Downtown Coaches Association is one of our key support groups at the University of Toledo," Deputy Director of Athletics David Nottke said. "Because of their efforts, our athletic department is able to provide resources and opportunities that help our student-athletes succeed, which in turn leads to a more enjoyable experience for our fans. We sincerely appreciate the support we receive from the members."
Â
Benefits of membership include: insider access to coaches, players and administrators at weekly catered lunches; regular updates from administrators and coaching staffs; and access to a diverse 225-person network of die-hard Rockets supporters. Attendance to the weekly luncheons is flexible and non-mandatory, and all fundraising proceeds go toward supporting UT Athletics. Supporters of all of ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join the program.
Â
Jeff Hepinstall, longtime Rocket supporter, is the Downtown Coaches Association executive director.
Â
"Joining the DCA is a great way to meet like-minded Rocket supporters who enjoy learning inside information from the coaches and players, and a great way to show support of the athletic programs at UT," Hepinstall said. "Meeting and hearing from the student-athletes that the coaches bring in each week, and being able to ask questions of the coaches and players are just some of the many benefits of joining the program."
Â
The first meeting of the year will be held on Monday, Aug. 27 in the Grogan Room in Savage Arena on the UT campus. Head football coach Jason Candle will talk about the upcoming season and the Rockets' season opener against VMI on Sept. 1. Lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. with the program kicking off at noon.
Â
Fans interested in joining the association can visit the Downtown Coaches Association website here or contact Julia Shaw (Julia.Shaw@utoledo.edu, 419-530-5087) for more information.
