Janelle Noe Set to Compete at NCAA Championships

Toledo, Ohio - Senior Janelle Noe will represent Toledo this week at the 2018 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Noe will run in heat one of the 1,500m semifinals on Thursday, June 7 at 7:16 p.m. EST.
The top-five finishers in each of the two heats plus the next two fastest times move onto the finals. The 1,500m finals are set to begin Saturday, June 9 at 6:41 p.m. EST.
"Janelle has had a tremendous season and this meet is the culmination of it all," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "She's done a great job of running tactically sound races and finishing strong. If she does that again Thursday, then I think she has a good chance of making the finals on Saturday. Regardless of the results this week though, she has a lot to be proud of and the University and Toledo communities have a lot to be proud of her for as well."
The Sylvania, Ohio native is coming off a remarkable year to remember. Noe punched her ticket to Eugene on May 26 when she ran in a personal-best 4:16.34 at the NCAA East Prelims in Tampa, Fla. Noe shaved half-a-second off her previous best time with her eighth-place finish.
Noe's performance down south came following the Mid-American Conference Championships where she went lights out in the 1,500m final. Noe broke the conference record after winning the race in 4:17.01, beating Debbie Duplay of Kent State's 4:17.34 time that was set back in 1993.
Noe opened the 2018 outdoor season with a bang, finishing the 1,500m in 4:18.56 at the North Carolina State Raleigh Relays. Noe shaved 10 seconds off her personal record, set a program record, and immediately qualified for the MAC Championship with her time. She would go on to win the 1,500m at the Jesse Owens Classic in 4:22.85 before taking some time off until the conference championships.
The Rockets have sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Championships since Nguyen took over the program in 2013. Noe is the first to reach the national championship since 2016 when Liz Weiler and Kyesha Neal qualified in the 3,000m steeplechase and discus, respectively.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be covered nationally by ESPN. Noe's race is expected to be on ESPN2, with the majority of events being streamed live via ESPN3/ Watch ESPN.
