Rockets Hire Gabriella Agostino as Assistant Diving Coach

Toledo, Ohio - Gabriella Agostino has been hired as the assistant women's diving coach at the University of Toledo, UT head coach Jonas Persson announced today. Agostino, who worked as the graduate assistant diving coach for the Rockets for the past two seasons, will be the first full-time diving coach in the history of the program.

"I'm very excited to continue coaching at Toledo," Agostino said. "I'm looking forward to building a team that keeps improving each year. I want to keep developing the divers we have, as well as the incoming recruits."

"I'm extremely excited that we were able to turn the diving coach position from graduate assistant into a full-time job," Persson said. "It is a step in the right direction for the continued improvement and competitiveness for our team in the Mid-American Conference. I'd like to thank (Senior Associate Athletic Director) Kelly Andrews and (Vice President and Athletic Director) Mike O'Brien for their hard work and dedication to the swimming and diving program to make this happen.

"Gabby has done an outstanding job for us the last two years as our GA diving coach," Persson added. "She started the diving program pretty much from scratch. Next year we will have five very competitive divers. Gabby is a great coach and great recruiter, and I'm looking forward to see what she can do in a full-time position. We conducted a national search and had a lot of good candidates, but Gabby stood out and is the best person for the job. The staff and our student-athletes are all very excited."

Agostino came to Toledo from Bloomington, Ind. where she coached the diving team at Bloomington High School South following her graduation from Indiana University. A 2012 graduate of IU, Agostino was a four-year standout diver for the Hoosiers. She was named the team's Most Valuable Diver for the 2011-12 season and was awarded Indiana's Aline Robinson Mental Attitude Award. Agostino earned a silver medal in both the three-meter dive and three-meter synchro dive in the 2012 USA Diving Summer National Championships and was the 2010 Big Ten individual champion in platform diving. While at Indiana, Agostino was a member of five USA Diving National Championships teams and three Big Ten Championships teams.

A native of South Bend, Ind., Agostino attended Saint Joseph High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Indiana in 2012 and recently graduated from UT with a master's degree in public health administration. She and her husband Thomas were married in November of 2016.
