Toledo Set for MAC Tournament Opener against Central Michigan

Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team will begin its run as the No. 5 seed in this week's Mid-American Conference Tournament on Wednesday when it plays No. 4 seed Central Michigan.

The Rockets and Chippewas will play at 6:00 p.m. at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio. Wednesday's game, and all games this week, will be available on ESPN+.

Championship Central | MAC Tournament Live Stats

UT finished the season with a 14-13 record in conference play. This will be Toledo's fourth straight trip to the MAC Tournament and 10th trip under head coach Cory Mee. The last time the Rockets faced Central Michigan in tournament play was in 2015, a game UT won by a score of 6-2.

How We Got Here
Entering this past weekend, Toledo needed to take care of business against Bowling Green and receive some help elsewhere to earn a spot in the MAC Tournament.

The Rockets proceeded to sweep the Falcons at Scott Park to keep themselves in contention. UT won 11-6 on Thursday in the series opener, scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure a crucial win. Weather conditions forced the two squads to play a Friday doubleheader, which could not have gone any better for Toledo. Sam Shutes and Michael Jacob combined to throw back-to-back complete game shutouts on Friday to complete the sweep in dominant fashion. On Saturday, both Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan lost to hand UT the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament.

Last Time Out against the Chippewas
UT and CMU played an interesting three-game series back in April. Originally scheduled for Mount Pleasant, Mich., the games were split between Scott Park and Westfield, Ind. due to unplayable weather conditions.
Central Michigan won the series opener by a score of 5-3. Toledo fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after two innings. The Rockets scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but it was too little too late.

A Sunday doubleheader was held in Grand Park, just outside of Indianapolis, and ended with Toledo winning the opener and losing the nightcap. UT slugged four home runs in its 13-1 victory in game one, a season high. The Chippewas came back to win game two of the doubleheader, 3-2, to clinch the series.
