Athena Welsh took eight seconds off her 3,000m steeplechase personal record as the Toledo women's track and field team closed out day two of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University at Buffalo.

"Today was a short but productive day," head coach
Linh Nguyen said. "We have about six events tomorrow that we can score points in so we need to maximize our efforts and have a really good final day."
Day two of competition started with the shot put. Junior
Katie Dewey threw for 14.97m, finishing sixth and earning three points for Toledo.

The long jump saw freshman
Karoline Steppin battle her way into the Rockets' second podium spot of the day. Steppin finished in eighth after leaping 5.72m, adding one more point to UT's score.

Next up was the 100m dash prelims where Williams set a new PR with her 11.72 finish. Williams also won her heat, finished second overall, and qualified for tomorrow's 100m finals as the second-fastest runner.

UT's final event of the day was the 3,000m steeple where Toledo secured three of the top five spots. Welsh ran a 10:14.33, shaving eight seconds off her PR and taking second. Junior
Stephanie Barlow was right behind her, finishing third in 10:27.69. Rounding out the steeple group was junior
Olivia Chinn, who finished fifth and set a new personal record with her 10:42.94 time.

Toledo returns to the track to close out the MAC Championships tomorrow morning. The Rockets start the day with the high jump at 11:00 a.m.
