TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo junior Pinyada Kuvanun was one of six individuals selected to participate in an NCAA regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin, the NCAA announced on Wednesday evening. The regional will feature 18 teams and six individuals and will take place on Monday-Wednesday, May 7-9 at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.
Kuvanun is the second UT golfer to compete in an NCAA event in the program's 23-year history. Former Rocket Sathika Ruenreong was the first and tied for 36th place at the 2016 NCAA Shoal Creek Regional in Alabama with a 16-over par 232 (75-78-79).
A two-time All-MAC selection, Kuvanun will enter the regional after setting the school record for stroke average in a season (72.9) and tying the school mark for best 18-hole (67) and 54-hole (210) stroke totals. She posted seven Top Five and eight Top 10 finishes this season, including three straight third-place showings or better in her final three tournaments. Kuvanun placed second at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational (April 7-8) at one-over par, third at the Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 14) at one-under par, and third at the Mid-American Conference Championships (April 20-22) at even-par. Her play at the MAC Championships helped the Rockets register a second-place finish for the fourth time in the last six years.
Â
The top six teams and top three individuals not on an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. from Friday-Wednesday, May 18-23.
