Toledo, Ohio -  The University of Toledo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) handed out awards for the 2017-18 season at its third annual Rocket Senior Banquet at the Grogan Room in Savage Arena on April 23. Cross country runners and SAAC representatives Josh Oeters (West Chester, Ohio) and Stephanie Sherman (Sylvania, Ohio) served as emcees for the event. UT's head coaches introduced their seniors and highlighted their accomplishments.
           Men's basketball player Tre'Shaun  Fletcher (Wilmer, Ark.) was honored as the Men's Most Valuable Player, while track/cross country runner Janelle Noe (Sylvania, Ohio) was named the Women's MVP. Noe was also named the Sportswoman of the Year. Baseball player Sam Shutes (Three Rivers, Mich.) was named Sportsman of the Year. The Sportsman/Sportswoman awards are given to the senior who exhibited the highest degree of excellence in athletics, academics and community service.
           Shutes also earned the award for top senior grade-point average for men's student-athletes (3.892). The top GPA award for women's student-athletes was shared by women's basketball players Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and Michaela Rasmussen, each of whom have perfect 4.0 GPAs.
           The Women's Team of the Year award went to the MAC Championship soccer team. Football, which went 11-3 and also won the MAC Championship, won the Men's Team of the Year award.
           "We are very proud to honor this wonderful group of seniors," said UT vice president and athletic director Mike O'Brien. "It's a privilege to have known and been associated with such outstanding student-athletes. We know that they will go on to achieve success in their chosen fields and continue to make us proud of them."
